Yesterday we said goodbye to our charming country B&B and headed off on our route to Lanciano ... not knowing what the roads or route would be like .. which is what makes cycle touring so interesting!
We started off with a ridge road giving us splendid views of the surrounding hills and mountains then headed down, down, down into the valley floor, crossed a bridge and a few highways, waved at a cycling peloton whizzing by at a round-about and then climbed up on to the small SP14 road into a small town and ran into 5 cyclists from Pescara! They were very friendly .. all men, probably older than us, and wanted to know all about us. They bought us coffee at the local cafe and then headed off in another direction. Lots of fun!
Once again we managed to arrive at our destination at 1:30pm. This is rush hour as the schools get out at that time and the buses are zooming around all the roads!... and then the parents, who are parked around the country and towns, pick up their kids off the buses and zooming around the roads heading home! This lasts for about an hour and seems to happen all over Italy!
Lanciano has a nice old section and we managed to find a nice seafood restaurant last night that let us in at 6:30!
Today we road to Ortono .. which I'll send as part 2!
