Yesterday we cycled in to San Gimignano and stayed in a place overlooking one of the central squares with classical and jazz music filtering in from the plaza .. we found some nice roads into town and enjoyed people watching as the place was packed! Very nice town!
The ride out today was busy through Colle di Val d'Elsa for the first 12km but then we found the quiet roads climbing then descending into Siena. Well not quite! The quiet road we found into town had three steep 20% plus pitches up into town! We now know why it was a quiet entry to Siena! We decided we did not have anything to prove so we walked the last 200m!
Siena is amazing! We toured the Duomo church this evening and then had dinner on the Piazza il Compo which was fabulous again for people watching! The dinner and wine was good too!
We have a 2nd night booked here and will enjoy touring around the city tomorrow.
We have booked the next 5 nights now to see us through the busy weekend and possible rain Sunday/Monday. (Pienza and Cortono)
