Yesterday was a rain day so we took in a local museum and hung out reading and watching the rain come down. We have a comfortable hotel and went to an excellent India restaurant .. which we will probably repeat to tonight!
Today was a cool day and so we started late .. 10am .. and headed off to do the Col de Saisies loop. It was a very nice climb along the edge of the Arly valley to Crest Voland then we swung right around the mountain and climbed up to the Col at the ski resort. I think it was 25km of climbing with pockets of sun and views of the valley below and the far away town of Ugine at the base of the valley.
At the top we did a quick change of clothes to get something dry on and took the picture (1645m elevation) then headed down as there was no view with the low hanging clouds. It was 8C!
At Hauteluce we popped into an Auberge for a hot chocolate and pie to warm up .. headed down some more and finally started to really warm up at Beaufort at the bottom of the valley .. where the town was having a flea market!
The last stretch in to Albertville was on a lovely road winding around the river! Temperature in Albertville was 15C.
It was a great climbing day but a cold descent day .. we think tomorrow we will stay lower!
68km 1600m ascent
My that Indian food is going to taste good tonight!
